Kiss from A Rose

About two hours ago, I was en-route home, when an Asian lady (perhaps Korean or Chinese) boarded the bus with her baby in-tow... snug in a front facing sling and white cap, so as to shield her porcelain skin from the sun. She looked to be just under 1 year old. Baby was cognizant of her surroundings, and her mother smiled down at her, beaming. Those of us sitting on the bus, deadpanning and clutching our parcels willing the driver to go a little faster so as to get us the hell home, smiled as she waved at us repeating over and over again, in short spurts "Hi!"... generating smiles all around as we returned her greeting. When mother pulled the lever to signal her stop, she descended the stairs of the bus, but not before baby blew all of us a kiss. It reminded me of my nephew and the way he christens our foreheads and noses with sloppy, wet, baby-boy kisses. It sort of restored my faith in humankind again.

man, I could be having THE WORST day, I could be hating every single human I see, and then I see a cute baby or kid & WHAM it makes me crack a smile, even if I don't want to, even if I'm FIGHTING it LOL

What a refreshing yet sad reflection. Why is it, as humans, we forget that innocence derived from childhood. Why do we grow to be so cynical, cold, selfish, insular? When all it takes is a simple gesture... a simple connection.
Too bad that not enough adults realize the beauty of what a child can teach us.

Nice post.
