... I'm trying, seemingly in vain, to keep from getting sick. Every space I occupy seems to be a petri dish filled with bacilli... swimming around like sickly little minnow, waiting to occupy my immune system. I don't have the time or the patience to be sick. I felt a tingling sensation in my sinuses, but nipped it in the bud. ... no time to be sick. I tend to revert back to my childhood when I am. It's not fun. For three weeks straight, I watched Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus). This is one of my favorite movies. I felt a wide range of emotions upon watching it again- (it could just be the PMS sneaking up on me), but I cried, I laughed, I mouthed the dialogue along with the characters. Overall, this movie (albeit bittersweet, so goes the Greek Myth the movie is based on) makes me happy. Perhaps its the subject matter (love in its purest form). The frenetic energy that emanates from watching the Samba and the Carnaval. Perhaps it's the ending- (knowing that Orfeu and Eurydice's legend, their love lives on, despite their demise, in the form of three children, who pick up Orfeu's guitar, and dance and sing to the sound of Samba de Orfeo)- ... I have been listening to the soundtrack to this movie since then. ... I can't stop humming the haunting melody to A Felicidade (Antonio Carlos Jobim/Vinicius de Moraes). Re-discovering this CD, it's almost like the colorful scenes of Carnaval, of the movie, replay themselves in my head. ... I can-not stop humming the melody to A Felicidade. Every now and again I insert Brazilian Girls' Lazy Lover. Lead singer, Sabina Sciubba laments of her lover rolling over whenever she "wants more" So I've been switching up between singing the two songs. I was humming Lazy Lover earlier this morning, when someone asked after it. I just smiled wryly.
